Until Sunday, the "Suan Luang Rama IX Flower Festival", one of the most famous flower festivals in Thailand, makes a return at Suan Luang Rama IX Park off Srinakarin Road in Prawet district from 8am-7pm.

Visitors can see many kinds of flowers all over the park. A highlight is an exhibition in memory of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and on his royally initiated projects nationwide.

In addition, visitors can watch cultural performances from four regions of Thailand and ornamental plant contests and enjoy shopping at booths selling flowers, plants and gardening tools, and a floating market selling food, arts and crafts and souvenirs.

Suan Luang Rama IX Park was established in 1987 to commemorate the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 60th birthday. Covering 500 rai, the park is divided into six sections: Garden of the Great King home to the Ratchamangkhala Pavilion, Botanic Garden, the Reservoir, Romanee Garden, Water Garden and Sanam Rasdara and Sport Centre. It has an international garden featuring plants from different regions of the world.

The park is open daily during 8am-7pm. Admission is 10 baht.

Silk extravaganza

From tomorrow until Dec 11, the "12th Cotton and Silk Exhibition" will take place in Sala Thai Room of Chiang Mai University Auditorium in Chiang Mai from 10am-8pm under the concept of "Lanna And International Cotton And Silk Textiles".

Activities include an exhibition on seven ethnic groups' cotton and silk fabrics, the demonstration of cotton and silk thread spinning and weaving, and the sale of natural colour-dyed textiles and products.

Tomorrow, there will be a fashion show at 4.30pm and the "Crafting Futures: British Council x Wallpaper*Design Talk 2017" seminar from 2-4pm.

Merit-making in Isan

On Saturday and Sunday, Buddhists are invited by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to make merit and practice dhamma and meditation at Wat Phra That Phanom Wora Mahawihan in Nakhon Phanom province.

Under the concept of "Land Of Religious Wonders", major monks in the Northeast of Thailand will deliver sermons and lead the participants to pray throughout Saturday night.

On Sunday morning, Buddhists will be able to give alms and breakfast to monks and novices by offering rice grown and harvested by local people as part of the worship for Phra That Phanom, the province's most important stupa.

Friendship and silk

Until Sunday, the "International Silk Festival, Phuk Siao Tradition and Khon Kaen Red Cross Fair 2017" take place in the field in front of the Khon Kaen Provincial Hall in Muang district, Khon Kaen.

A highlight is the Phuk Siao ritual, a local tradition of the Northeast of Thailand to form the bond of friendship for participants. Also, there are colourful parades from every district of the province.

Visitors can watch the "International Silk Exhibition", Khon Kaen silk contests, a fashion show and beauty pageant local cultural performances, and the demonstration of culture of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) -- Thailand, China's Yunna province, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia. They can also shop for silk and One Tambon One Product products.
