The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation presents "Emmanuel Ceysson Plays Glière's Harp Concerto", a celebratory concert to mark HM Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother's birthday, in the Main Hall of Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, this Friday at 7.30pm.

Held in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, B.Grimm Group and the Embassy of France, the concert will feature world-class harp soloist Emmanuel Ceysson and conductor Douglas Bostock in a programme that opens with Khon Overture War Of Solaris by National Srtist and Silpathorn Artist Prof Narongrit Dhamabutra.

For his Bangkok debut, Ceysson will be performing the Harp Concerto In E-Flat Major, Op 74 by Reinhold Glière, a great composer of the 20th century. Unlike other symphonic works, this harp concerto features fewer instruments. The brass section is limited to four French horns, and the composer used only timpani and a triangle in the percussion group. The main theme is lyrical, with the soloist's arpeggiated chords.

Ceysson is a highly skilled harpist who challenges stereotypes associated with his instrument through powerful virtuoso playing. He spent almost 15 years as principal harp in prestigious orchestras before becoming the Los Angeles Philharmonic harpist in 2020.

He has established himself as a celebrated soloist in renowned concert venues worldwide, collaborating with esteemed orchestras and participating in major music festivals. To round up the evening, the RBSO will play Sibelius' Symphony No.1 In E Minor, Op 39, which uses standard instrumentation but manages to create a vivid sound.

Tickets cost 600, 1,000, 1,800, 2,400 and 3,000 baht (half price for students and seniors aged 60 and above) and can be purchased from thaiticketmajor.com (call 02-262-3456).
