The power of nature is reflected through art during "Under The Dark Sun", which is running at Warin Lab Contemporary until Sept 28.

Presented as a warning and also an opportunity for change by Imhathai Suwatthanasilp, the exhibition reminds us of the nurturing power of nature as a place for all species -- an ecosphere in which sea and land creatures, and birds coexist.

As environmental changes of great magnitude loom over us, the artist reflects on the possibility that nature may one day become no longer a hospitable but a dark place, where no light or life would be conceivable -- the end of our planet or perhaps its transformation within the cycle of life.

While looking at the consequences of human behaviour on the environment, she also highlights the power that natural phenomena have had on human history and the history of the planet. What would this planet be like if the Sun were obscured, and the Moon depleted? Would their cycles still guide us? Could biodiversity still exist?

To address these questions, the artist considers a variety of animals, from marine to wildlife. While they are naturally dependent on each other, in the exhibition these ecosystems are juxtaposed and mix matched to create a cacophonic ensemble that manifests how much damage we have inflicted to nature.

These same concerns are also reflected by the artist in the choice of materials for her works, which tightly reconnect us to nature. Besides her signature use of human hair, she employs other minute mediums like fish scales of various types and termite wings that despite their insignificant size, are able to tell us big stories and to show us big problems.

Warin Lab Contemporary is located at OP Garden, Charoen Krung 36, and opens Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 7.30pm.
