Canitt's summer 2021 collection takes inspiration from the Indian subcontinent

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Last season, Khanidtha Daroonnate based her design concept on the core idea of escapism and coming to an equilibrium, following the ongoing pandemic and unprecedented changes.

For summer 2021, the founder and creative director of Canitt fashion house explored the cultures of South India for the All That Raj collection. The design team was particularly inspired by the arts, cultures and architecture of the Mughal empire that thrived from the 16th to the early 18th century in the subcontinent.

For instance, the new shade, Sunshine Dreaming, is inspired by the sky and castles in Jaipur, The Pink City; while the Moonlight Lover print recalls the rhythmic expression of a painting displayed in an Indian palace.

In addition, the Thai fashion designer referred to the Indian sari in creating draping that accentuates the feminine figure.

The inspirations from the past have been combined with simple modern structures for Canitt's summer 2021 collection.

"Through the All That Raj collection, we propose a different take on elegance and glamour by making them more playful through the fabrics, palette and prints so that women can have fun dressing up, with pieces designed for them to bloom throughout summer," said Khanidtha.

Silk chiffon and linen, for instance, are light fabrics chosen in making the summer wear. Crop tops, shirt blouses with smocked details and different pants design can be mixed and matched for various looks and occasions. The designs also make perfect pieces to pack for the summer holidays.

"We wish for all the women to rest from the hectic world, therefore this collection will bring everyone to travel through the ready-to-wear with resort vibe," she said.
