The Thai Textile Society is holding a talk on "Threads Of No Boundaries" to introduce a subject and skills not broached before, at Siam Society, Asok Road, on Saturday at 10am.

The speaker will be Jarupatcha Achavasmit, who will take the audience through a textile journey of collaborations with three artists, using weaving as a method to narrate social and environmental changes in contemporary society through her art creations.
The first is "Weaving The Pictures" exhibition with photographer Niwat Koonpol held at the old Bamrungnukulkij Printing House late last year. The second is "Trash: Treasure" with Ake Atthasumpunna in a group exhibition at Atta Gallery early this year. It was also shown at Milan Design Week in April and at Bangkok's Mango Art Festival early this month. The last one is an upcoming exhibition in collaboration with Prof Sakarin Krue-On scheduled for August at Warin Lab.
Jarupatcha developed a passion for textiles at a young age. At six, she began discovering the mechanism and beauty of the weave structure, looking at her Hello Kitty handkerchief under her mother's microscope in a botany laboratory.
She has since focused her time and energy on the study of textiles in Thailand, the US and the UK, conducting in-depth research on advanced weaving technology with the traditions of Thai weaving.
In 2012, Jarupatcha and her friend Shoson Tatawakorn set up Ausara Surface and Textiles, where they created advanced woven materials such as carbon fibre, Kevlar, basalt and stainless steel as well as using recycled material from industrial and beach wastes.
Their works can be seen at luxury label flagship stores such as Cartier in Bangkok and Louis Vuitton in Paris and at 5-star hotels such as Mandarin Oriental, Marriott, Four Seasons, Amanyangyun Shanghai, Shangri-La, Rosewood, and W Hotel worldwide.
Since 2020, she has been devoting her time and energy to creating art, collaborating thus far with the three artists.
The talk will be in English. The fee is 400 baht (300 baht for Thai Textile Society members).
