An exploration of Asian textiles

The Siam Society on Sukhumvit 21 Road is holding a special talk and discussion titled "Magnificent Selection Of Asian Textiles: Thai Textile Society's February Collector's Corner By Louis-Sébastien Ohl" on Feb 3 at 10am.

Louis-Sébastien Ohl, a passionate collector of world traditional textiles, will present unique and exceptional textiles and reflect on the criteria within their own cultural group that make some of them special. The presentation and discussion will be based on rare and select pieces Louis-Sébastien will bring from Paris where he lives today, as well as on a few slides to introduce the selection rationale of each piece and its cultural context. He will also point out what makes one collection more worthy than others, and what defines a textile as a "masterpiece" within its category.

Louis-Sébastien was born and raised in Vietnam, and having lived later in Singapore, Russia, Japan and Thailand, his collection focuses on Central Asian, northern Indian, southern Chinese, Lao-Thai, Cambodian and Indonesian textiles, with a few exceptions from the Middle East and Africa, as he believes that these pieces should not be overlooked.

Admission fee is 300 baht for members and 400 baht for non-members of the Thai Textile Society. The talk will be held in English. Email bkk.tts@gmail.com for reservation.
