Siam Society is holding a leisurely one-day trip to visit several sites of interest in the orchard areas along the canals and rivers of Samut Songkhram, the smallest province in Thailand, on Oct 5.

Located on the seashore at Mae Klong Bay, 75km southwest of Bangkok, Samut Songkhram is a low-lying land crisscrossed by waterways. Its fertile land, rich in nutrients for plants, makes the area perfect for cultivating fruits.

With its historic riverbank settlements and networks of canals, fruit plantations, unique arts and crafts, picturesque seaside, and delicious cuisine, the province has become a weekend getaway destination that provides a quick rural retreat and unique local experiences.

The upcoming trip will take participants to witness rural life and the charm of the countryside at Bang Nok Kwaek, which is surrounded with fruit orchards. There are coconut palms, banana, papaya, mango, betel nut trees and an amazing variety of trees and plants.

Besides strolling through some interesting orchards, they will have the chance to take a boat trip to visit old temples -- Wat Pummarin Kudeethong, Wat Bang Khae Yai and Wat Bang Khae Noi.

A picnic lunch at a lovely resort beside the canal and a stop by the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady will be included.

The fee is 4,000 baht (3,500 baht for members) including meals.
