Man Fu Yuan – Rajpruek Club’s best kept Cantonese dining secret

Eating healthy is all the rage and while it can seem rather difficult to find delicious food that is both light and filling, Man Fu Yuan “Garden of Prosperity” Restaurant serving authentic Cantonese cuisine offers just that. Situated within the prestigious Rajpruek Club at North Park on Vibhavadi-Rangsit, Man Fu Yuan is famous for its handcrafted dim sum offerings, available for lunch and dinner with 25-30 impressive varieties. The dinner menu boasts some of the finest dishes served at the original branch located at the InterContinental Singapore.

A favored haunt of discerning Cantonese food gourmands, newly refurbished Man Fu Yuan features beautiful butterfly chandeliers and elegant hand-painted walls. A palette of beige, gold and cream is complemented by flora-and-fauna theme wallpaper and carpets.  With 150 covers, the restaurant boasts six private rooms named after flowers with auspicious meanings in Chinese – lily, jasmine, orchid. White-linen covered tables are set with bone china dinnerware and tea sets brought from Singapore.

Chef’s signature dishes cited by Patrick Ng, the restaurant’s gregarious International Business Consultant, include Tea Smoked Duck. “The duck is first roasted Hong Kong style before being smoked with brown sugar, rice and black tea. The process of smoking removes the excess fat and reduces its overall oiliness.”

Cartilage Soup with Fish Maw, with high collagen content, is another healthy option on the menu. Prolongued drinking of Cartilage soup has been shown to improve elasticity and regeneration of skin and reduce cancer risk.

Or for something light, the Stir-fried Radish Cake with XO Sauce is a no-carb, flavourful delicacy that can be enjoyed as an appetizer or mains.

With Steamed Fish with Bean Crumbs, the yellow beans are mashed and slightly fried until crispy, creating a dish that combines the freshness of fish and fragrance of bean crumbs.

Also available on the menu is a selection of authentic Cantonese style porridge which can be enjoyed with century egg, pork ball or fish and alongside marinated pork with salted egg yolk.

The outstanding Cantonese dishes are paired with 10 special tea blends with highlight on the unique in-house blend – the golden-coloured Man Fu Yuan Special 5 Elements (gold, wood, water, fire and earth) with flowery notes – that go especially well with dim sums. “Gold” represents the golden pot that was traditionally used to make the tea, while the “wood” refers to ancient Chinese ginseng called Burdock. “Water” is simply the water used in the tea, and “fire” comes from the red colour of the rose petals packed with the tea leaves. “Earth” represents the tea leaves, a combination of black tea for fragrance and colour, and white peony tea leaves for high antioxidant properties.

For dessert, try Pao Lava – custard lava bun served steamed or deep-fried. It’s good!

Though Man Fu Yuan provides selections of wines from all over, its specialty is wines and spirits imported from China. Chinese wines available include Mautai and Nu-Er-Hong, which pairs well with heavier food like meats and seafood. A current promotion at Man Fu Yuan offers a variety of international wines at 999 baht a bottle net.
