Blendata, Thailand's first cloud-based big data platform developer under G-Able Group, aims to expand its market reach into Asia-Pacific in five years following a surge in demand for data among organisations.

"Big data analytics is in high demand as businesses transform into data-driven organisations where actionable data is important in addition to skills and experience," said Chaiyuth Chunnahacha, president of G-Able.

However, major hurdles include large amounts of data, the cost of hiring data engineering experts and a shortage of necessary skills, he said.

With a surge in demand for data analytics, G-Able has ushered in its big data management platform developed by its engineering team.

"We expect to be an S-curve firm and record growth of 30% over the next five years," Mr Chaiyuth said.

Over that period, Thailand will see a significant uptake of data analytics as part of digital transformation, he said.

At the global level, the big data industry is forecast to reach US$230 billion (7.1 trillion baht) by 2025. Thailand's big data industry is expected to grow 20% by 2025.

Natnapat Rachataviwat, chief executive and co-founder of Blendata, said Thailand faces three hurdles in driving enterprises with big data. The first concern is how to efficiently integrate large amounts of data from many resources, the second involves the complexity of data infrastructure, and the third obstacle is the cost of managing big data.

He said Blendata had the idea to develop a platform to solve these problems for enterprises looking for "opportunities" hidden in data. The company wants to simplify data so everyone in a company can access useful data without having to code.

Blendata's platform can work both in the cloud that can scale and on-site at customers' data centres.

The platform also offers data management tools for users and can integrate data from multiple sources. It is an open platform that can connect with other systems.

The company has already started operations of its "Blendata Enterprise" platform, which is aimed at serving large enterprises. Products for medium-sized businesses' big data management are planned to be rolled out by this year.

"In 2020, Blendata saw revenue grow sevenfold, and the target for 2021 is 100% growth with an aim of three years of growth. There are also plans to expand into the APEC group of companies," said Mr Natnapat.
