Exhibition reveals a different side of hotels

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

A group of artists and designers are inviting viewers to explore the existence of history in controlled space and time during "Hotel Interim", which is running at Josh Hotel on Ari Samphan 4, Phahon Yothin Road, until Sunday.

The exhibition is inspired by the role of hotels as a place for short stays between destinations and cleaners who witnesses every memory and trace left behind by guests on a daily basis and transforms everything back to the original state.

On display are five art installations by Mæwtãy, Cloud-floor, Creme and Sp/n who recount the interesting story of a hotel in the Ari-Pradiphat area and a maid who observed the tide of visitors who came and went and the constant renewal of the place that created endless expectations and a daily hope for outsiders.

Mæwtãy compares the way all traces in a small room are recorded, how stories or memories are retold, and how objects are reused or re-installed to the repeatedly used decorative flowers in the room that leaves no suspicion to new guests.

Cloud-floor portrays a keen eye for detail and attention of the maid whose professional skills come with years of experience and personal techniques while Creme's installation invites viewers to discover another hidden side of the objects that might only be the hotel's unwanted stuff or forgotten and leftover things from guests.

Sp/n, meanwhile, reflects the hotel cycle which involves room preparing for check-in and cleaning of all trails and traces after check-out to make the room ready to serve the next guest.

The exhibition is part of "Bangkok Design Week 2021". It is running from 11am to 6pm and opens to five visitors per round of 30 minutes, free of charge.
