Notable for innovative make-up cushions and sleeping masks, Laneige celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Over the years, it has also been developing hydropower for the skin, since it believes that delivering hydration is the basis for luminous beauty.

From the French word for snow, Laneige was launched in 1994 by South Korea cosmetics giant Amorepacific, whose empire has now expanded to more than 30 beauty brands.

Each brand specialises in a certain technology. Laneige's research on the interaction between water and skin has driven Water Science technology that has extended from aqua to deep-sea to green-mineral to mint and super berry waters, for various skincare benefits.

The silver jubilee is marked by limited-edition Perfect Renew Regenerator in a bottle that reflects the Water Science and the luminous-beauty concept through its gradient of blue to purple shades. The antiageing oil-serum contains energising galangal root extract and moisturising ceramide water that mimics the skin barrier.

Laneige also recently launched upgraded Water Bank formulas featuring green mineral water extracted from vegetables via the Ocean Brew method.

Kale, garden cress and beetroot are washed and crushed, then immersed in low-temperature (15C) seawater for five hours, resulting in the green mineral water for Water Bank Hydro Essence, catering to the combination-oily skin type.

Another recipe, brussels sprout, artichoke and lima bean, undergo the same extraction method, to obtain the green mineral water bottled in Water Bank Moisture Essence for dry skin.

Laneige's moisturising mechanism also involves Water Zipper to lock in the hydrating effects.

Other approaches in replenishing moisture include osmosis pressure by using phyto sugar water as a base for White Dew Original Ampoule Essence.

An intensive treatment, Focus Active Ampoule contains firming musk mallow water infused with a soy peptide ingredient made by concentrating low-molecular-weight polypeptide from beans.

A single-drop extraction and cold brewing method is used to acquire amino acid-rich white tea leaf water, featured in the Cream Skin Refiner. Laneige devised another technology that melts viscous cream into a watery texture for this new product, to deliver hydration from the very first step after cleansing.
