Advanced Info Service (AIS), the country's biggest mobile operator by subscriber base, has joined three government ministries and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) to launch school courseware on cyber threats.
The three ministries are the Public Health Ministry, the Education Ministry and the Interior Ministry.
The initiative is aiming to educate students in 30,000 schools nationwide.
The parties involved yesterday signed a cooperation agreement to elevate digital education with courses adjusted to the current context of Thai society, said AIS chief executive Somchai Lertsutiwong.
"AIS is not only about enhancing network quality but we are always seeking ways to help people know how to best use digital technology and in a way that enhances their skills and their online knowledge with safety," Mr Somchai said.
He said two years ago, AIS launched the Aunjai Cyber online project which aimed to educate people on cyber risks. Now AIS is furthering the scope of the project -- an app and website -- by working with the three ministries and KMUTT.
The new online course will be developed by the Mental Health Department of the Public Health Ministry, while the KMUTT will be responsible for creating graphics and animation. The Education Ministry will help certify the interactive courseware to ensure it stays in line with educational standards, Mr Somchai said.
The curriculum will offer four professional skill modules -- "Practice" to educate users on proper usage of digital technology, "Personality" to educate about digital privacy, "Protection" to provide knowledge about cyber threats, and "Participation" to let users know how to interact with others online.
Education Minister Trinuch Thienthong said the curriculum will help enhance digital literacy among students.
