Late Night With The Devil

Directed by Cameron Cairnes and Colin Cairnes.

David Dastmalchian. Laura Gordon and Ian Bliss.

What’s it about?

October 31, 1977. Johnny Carson rival Jack Delroy hosts a syndicated talk show 'Night Owls' that has long been a trusted companion to insomniacs around the country. A year after the tragic death of Jack's wife, ratings have plummeted. Desperate to turn his fortunes around, Jack plans a Halloween special like no other, unaware he is about to unleash evil into the living rooms of America.

Why watch it?

The Carmichael character is very clearly based (including physically) on the real-life James Randi. Randi was a talented magician who became a famous psychic debunker and he started an institute that offered a large reward to anyone that could reproduce their supposed paranormal powers in controlled conditions. Over decades, nobody was able to win the money.

Hit Man

Directed by Richard Linklater.

Who’s in it?

Glen Powell, Adria Arjona and Retta.

What’s it about?

A professor moonlighting as a hit man of sorts for his city police department, descends into dangerous, dubious territory when he finds himself attracted to a woman who enlists his services.

Why watch it?

The real-life Gary Johnson passed away early on in production and never got to see the film. Linklater only talked to him on the phone, and never got to meet him in person.

Kimi to Sekai ga Owaru Hi ni (Love You As The World Ends)

Directed by Shintarô Sugawara.

Who’s in it?

Ryoma Takeuchi, Mayu Hotta, Ryoma Takeuchi, Fumiya Takahashi, Rihito Itagaki, Airu Kubozuka and Yuki Tachibana.

What’s it about?

Utopia was a tower of hope, but it was a tower of despair created by human desires. In Utopia, they were researching the only way to save this world: a vaccine against the monster called Golem. One girl with special antibodies was used as research material. Her name is Mirai, the daughter of Hibiki Mamiya. Hibiki decides to rescue Mirai together with five men who have gathered in Utopia. The men are trying to rescue their loved ones, to save their family and friends, and to steal food and money to survive. Although each of them has their own non-negotiables and some rebellion, they gradually come to resonate with Hibiki's beliefs and decide to fight together.

Why watch it?

It’s originally a streaming series.
