Exhibition from German master

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

German artist Heiko Muller will showcase a collection of paintings during the "Among The Shades" exhibition, which kicks off today and will wrap on May 5, at Le Link Gallery BKK.

Henchmen.

This is the first time for viewers in Thailand and Asia to witness 25 acrylic and oil paintings and one sculpture by the independent artist who has exhibited in his hometown of Hamburg as well as New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Paris, Saint Petersburg and Tartu of Estonia.

His work is inspired by a wide spectrum of sources, including medieval icons, Dutch and Flemish Renaissance masters, rural folk art, and contemporary comics. He first gained attention by combining medieval Christian icons with modern digital art.

Thrilled by the kind of spiritual terror found in the paintings of the old Flemish masters, Muller's latest work is close to the American lowbrow and pop-surrealism movement.

Black Bear.

Characteristics of his works are animal illustrations with a very dark, apocalyptic mood, often appearing like modern takes on Bosch or Bruegel motifs. His most recent work marks a return to painting after a long period of drawing with coloured pencils, during which he developed special techniques to make the drawings appear like oil paintings.

Muller has a design diploma from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. He is also working as a professional media designer and illustrator.

The opening reception is today at 6pm. Le Link Gallery BKK is on Soi Ton Son, Phloenchit Road, and is open Wednesdays until Sundays, noon-6pm.
