Water way to celebrate
To celebrate Songkran, Thai Beverage is holding the "Water Festival 2016: Way of Water... Way of Thais" in three regions.
In Bangkok, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Royal Thai Navy and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the second edition of the festival will be running at seven venues located along the curve of Chao Phraya River from tomorrow to Friday.
They are Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm, Wat Arun Rajwararam, Wat Prayurawongsawas Warawihan, Wat Kalayanamitr, Maharaj Pier, Yod Pi Man River Walk and Asiatique the Riverfront.
This is an opportunity to pay respect to Buddha images, make merit, join Songkran-themed activities and shop for handicrafts at the four respective temples. Besides interesting workshops at Maharaj Pier and the trademark fresh flower market at Yod Pi Man River Walk, visitors can attend the evening fair at Asiatique The Riverfront. It will feature products and various kinds of food from outstanding food shops, temple fair-style games in the evening, and famous act performances each night.
In Chiang Mai, the festival will take place at the 140 Years Lanna Ancient House located by Ping River from tomorrow to Friday. The premises will be divided into five zones featuring a replica of Lanna village, a traditional Lanna market (or kad mua), a display and sales of Lanna crafts, an exhibition on Lanna ancient houses, and Lanna rituals and cultural performances.
In Phuket, Patong beach will be packed with activities including folk games, a pageant contest, an amusement park, traditional performances, folk dance, a light and sound show, and a concert by famous musicians until Sunday.
There is no admission fee. Visit www.facebook.com/WaterFestivalThailand.
The festival will take place in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket.
