Official description

For budding directors enthralled by the artistry behind long takes, creative camera movement and elaborate blocking, filmmaker Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit will be sharing his techniques in a film workshop on Saturday.

Hosted by TCDC Commons, the workshop, entitled “A Short Talk On A Long Take”, will feature director and screenwriter Nawapol as a speaker in the half-day course, in which he will discuss and demonstrate the “long take” technique of filmmaking. With no editing, the charm and difficulty of this technique are in the precise timing that allows the entire scene to flow harmoniously. Also discussed will be the history of the long take, the sense of time and reality, designing the camera movement and direction, and as scriptwriting for the long take.

An insider’s discussion of filmmaking

The director will also ask participants to share three of their favourite long-take scenes. The workshop only accepts 15 participants, and they should have some knowledge of filmmaking.

Nawapol, 33, is known for his directorial work in the 2013 indie film Mary Is Happy, Mary Is Happy, as well as the more high-profile Freelance Harm Puay Harm Pak Harm Rak Mor (Heart Attack) — a 2015 film starring Sunny Suwanmethanont and Davika Hoorne.

“A Short Talk On A Long Take” will be held at TCDC Commons Ideo Q in Samyan from 10am-1pm. Entry is free. Advanced booking required. Visit www.facebook.com/tcdccommons or call 02-108-5886.
