This small bistro looks more like a contemporary noodle joint than an easy-to-eat, authentic southern Vietnamese restaurant.

Specialities include pho and banh mi, which are prepared to the Thai-Vietnamese owner's recipes.

My order of banh mi with charcoal grilled pork (185 baht) was one of the tastiest and most peppery sandwiches I've had in years. The bun had a crusty exterior encasing the chewy bread and a generous offering of flame-grilled marinated pork shoulder with the fresh slices of romain lettuce, shallots, carrots and onions.

The fiery mouthfeel of the sandwich was toned down (and perfectly complemented) by ca phe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee, 165 baht), featuring a dark-roast coffee layered with sweet condensed milk and crushed ice.

Muine's rib-eye pho (160 baht) was another must have. It's a nice bowl of rice noodles with large marbling slices of rib-eye beef and fresh onions in a tasty, translucent brown broth, which is a result of simmering the chicken for a long time until the broth becomes aromatic and sweet.

The tasty soup needed no flavour enhancement.

Unless you are intimidated by a heavy, large-portioned dessert, the coconut and black sticky rice crème brûlée (145 baht) is a superb choice. The crusty burnt caramel surface deliciously broke open to reveal a silky custard layer with fragrant glutenous rice.

Other main dishes worth trying are Vietnamese pork chop served with rice, Thai-French beef stew, chicken curry with sweet potato and Vietnamese noodle salad.

Service was fair.
