Healthy Cravings
Daily Fix gives your stomach what it needs
We swung by Daily Fix one busy Wednesday lunchtime at Central World, in dire need of something healthy. Too many coffees, cha yens and French fries had taken over our diets. Daily Fix marks the perfect stop for fast food that doesn't forget about or fall short in proper nutrition. From smoothies, salads and adaptations of Thai favourites to hearty protein-laden meals and build-your-own-fixes, if you're someone who cares about what they're putting into their body, then this is the place you should be going to. Plus, if you work in the area, this option is far better than sitting at your desk and stuffing your face with 7-Eleven salapao or cheese toasties. You *do* want to live longer, right?
We started off with smoothies; I had the Vit C booster smoothie (B100) with banana and blueberry. Usually the smoothie comes with milk, but you can ask the guys at Daily Fix to lay off the milk should you either hate it or have an intolerance for it. My accomplice got the Energy booster smoothie (B100) which came with milk, banana, whey protein and peanut butter -- perfect for pre-or-post work-out fix and a meal unto itself.
The Daily fix salad (90B) was super delish and a perfect one to start off with. Filled with red oak, green oak, cos and butterhead lettuce, string beans, cherry tomatoes and sunflower seeds, you get the idea why it's such a feel-good dish. It's topped off with balsamic vinegar. We're liking how Daily Fix keeps things simple; none of the overly sweet mayonnaise dressing BS.
Next up, we tried the Salmon tabbouleh (B240) which came with the signature cooked salmon, some Thai seafood sauce and watermelon salad; absolutely delicious but not your usual at all. The watermelon salad came with pickled onions and, OK, this may sound rather peculiar but actually it was so delicious and probably the highlight of our visit. Props to the creativity here. The tabbouleh is not your usual at all either; instead of using bulgur, Daily Fix uses quinoa, which means more protein. It's also super filling. We're suckers for quinoa so yum.
We also tried the Chicken babaganoush (B200) -- all-spice grilled jerk chicken breast with broccoli salad, rice berry and babaganoush sauce. We're also suckers for that black rice so props to Daily Fix for that. The chicken was cooked sous vide (cooked in vacuum-sealed food-grade pouches) which made it very tender and flavourful, although we do admit it didn't taste as good as your standard home-cooked roast chicken. All in all though, not bad for a lunchtime stopover. g
