Classical painter Franco Aguggiaro from Italy gives his first solo exhibition in Thailand titled "Carnival In Bangkok" at Sathorn 11 Art Space until March 30.

On display are 30 paintings and 20 more in an archive that portrays Venice and its famous carnival. The annual festival takes place during the week before Lent in the mostly Catholic country and involves music, dance and the use of masquerade.

Born in Vigonza Italy, in the province of Padova, the old master studied design and artistic nude painting in Nice, London, Paris and Stockholm in the late 1960s before returning to Rome to study at the Academy of Art.

He opened an art studio in Nice in the 1980s and started a working relationship with Ettore Russo until the latter's death in 1992, when Aguggiaro was knighted by Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, then president of Italy.

Throughout his career, his associations with painters such as Giorgio de Chirico, Tommasi Ferroni, Kokocinski, Villoresi, Guzzi Schifano and many others afforded him the opportunity to learn the secrets of the most refined techniques of traditional and modern painting. Aguggiaro took residence in Florida in 1994 and became an American citizen six years later.

The exhibition is part of the Italian Festival in Thailand 2017 with the support of the Embassy of Italy. Sathorn 11 Art Space is on Sathon 11 and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am-7pm.
