Official description

To celebrate its 10th year, Thai mime troupe Babymime will for the first time perform a spoken variety show, at Pridi Banomyong Institute’s Poonsuk Banomyong Auditorium, from today until May 4.

The Baby (Not) Mime Show will see the group sing, dance, play music, recite poetry and more. Joining them on-stage as guests will be director Parnrut Kritchanchai, dubbed the “goddess of slapstick”; playwright Nophand Boonyai, known as a “master of indie theatre”; and Akira Modesakul.

Babymime comprises Ratchai “Nging” Rujiwipatna, Nuttapol “Ta” Kummetha, and Thongglur “Gluea” Thongtae. Its shows have become annual fan meetings, making the troupe a household name.

The troupe continues to draw a crowd at the annual Bangkok Street Show and has enjoyed numerous trips to perform overseas. The trio holds true to its maestro’s motto that, “to truly become a professional mime artist, one has to perform for 10 years”.

The upcoming show, therefore, does not celebrate Babymime’s past success, but instead marks its beginning.

The show will be staged every Thursday to Monday, at 8pm, plus a 2pm matinee on weekends. Pridi Banomyong Institute is on Sukhumvit Soi 55.

Tickets cost 650 baht and can be purchased from Happening Shop at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and at www.showbooking.com. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Jayawana Foundation.

Call 02-214-3040, 087-255-7938 or 088-462-2669.
