BSO offers tribute concert to the 'Supreme Artist', King Bhumibol

In remembrance of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation and the Ministry of Culture's Department of Cultural Promotion present "Tribute To The Supreme Artist" concert at Thailand Cultural Centre's Main Hall, Ratchadaphisek Road, on Wednesday at 8pm.

Vanich Potavanich will conduct the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (BSO), with fellow Thai classical musical stars Kittinant Chinsamran (bass-baritone) and Barbara Zion (soprano) joined on stage by Bangkok’s own Suanplu Chorus and RSU Concert Singers, a choir from Rangsit University.

The highlight will be two large works, each running about 35 minutes: famed Thai composer Narongrit Dhamabutra’s Sinfonia: Le Pas De Mon Père; and Gabriel Faure’s Requiem Op 48, a centrepiece of the choral repertoire for over a century.

The rest of the concert consists of Giulio Caccini’s popular crossover arrangement of Ave Maria; Frank Ticheli’s Earth Song (these two items for unaccompanied a cappella choir); Bach’s heart-wrenching baritone aria Mache Dich, Mein Herze, Rein, from St Matthew Passion and Amazing Grace by English hymnist John Newton, a song that spread to achieve global influence as a universal call for hope.

There is no admission fee. For reservations, call 02-255-6617/8, 02-254-4954/5 or email bsof@bangkoksymphony.org.
